Had a dealer tell me that the B7300 is better with a 60" mid-deck than the B1700 becuase the power steering on the B1700 uses up a bit more than its 1 hp advantage. Said the B1700 with 60" will bog down some if I have hills to mow (I do) and it would be better served with the 54", where a 60" on the B7300 is fine with hills. Any comments? Experience?

one horse power and more cubic inches should make it about equal if not more. Unless you ride around in circles so the pump is on demand all the time. ....

Sounds like a dealer with a B7300 readily available...quick turn around equals quick commission check. I have 0 experience with a B7300, but I would lay a $100 bucks on the B1700 being "at least" equal if not better. We also have a big hill to mow, Unless you want arms that look like popeye, go for the power steering. Our Power"less" Steering Allis Chalmers made my arms hurt till I was done. And that unit is more than a few pounds lighter than a B7300. The power steering unit is for all intensive purposes only pulling engine HP when initiating a turn. ....

This spring I had the chance to check out the B7300, B2100 and B2710. All were equipped with 60" belly mowers - no loader. I found the B7300 struggled while mowing on 20% grades. The B2100 and B2710 had no problem mowing the hills. If you have big hills, consider a larger tractor. I don't know how much difference power steering makes in terms of hp lost but the difference in comfort level between operating a tractor with power steering and one without is significant. ....
